First of all, I’m not anti-parks. In fact, I am a frequent user of Kirkland’s parks; however, I am against having my taxes raised to pay for parks because there’s already plenty of money in Kirkland’s budget to do that.
Roger Goodman, State Representative of the 45th Legislative District was recently given a national award by MADD for “Legislator of the Year” for his legislation that requires that ignition interlock devices be installed on cars of convicted drunk drivers.
The Charter School initiative 1240 campaign advertising blitz makes it sound like such a good deal for Washington state students.
The City of Kirkland has two propositions on the ballot this fall. One is to provide care and maintenance for roads and the other to maintain parks.
Regrettably, Kirkland has decided to tie funding for initial improvements to the former BNSF railway line to other needed upgrades and acquisitions for Kirkland Parks.
In the recent televised debate with her opponent Michael Baumgartner, Sen. Maria Cantwell said she would oppose oil drilling in ANWR (Alaska National Wildlife Refuge). Why? No explanation was given.
After some digging, I have learned that the 2011-2012 Kirkland Parks Department fund is about $14 million.
Our children deserve the very best we can give them and instead Olympia is failing them.
Propositions 1 and 2 are not really park and street maintenance levies. They are actually multimillion dollar capital project levies.

All of my life I have supported levies for streets, parks and schools, but not this year.

I’m voting yes for great Kirkland Parks on Nov. 6 for the City of Kirkland’s Proposition 2. I have lived and owned a business in Kirkland for 12 years.
A yes vote on Proposition 2 for parks is the right way to ensure sustained funding for the city’s extraordinary parks system.
Finally a proponent of Proposition 2 has stated the primary purpose of the levy. Brenda Nunes in the Oct. 5 Reporter states:
In November, residents of Kirkland will be asked to approve two levies. Proposition No. 1 provides for streets maintenance, safe school walk routes, and neighborhood safety improvements.
One of Kirkland’s strengths is its sense of community. A great example of this is the volunteer work in Kirkland’s nature parks that is hosted by the Green Kirkland Partnership.
