Approximately two years ago the Comprehensive Plan was modified to incentivize residential development downtown by allowing a reduction in parking stalls. There were years of study by the Parking Advisory Board, then approval by Kirkland’s Planning Commission and then it became law when voted in by Ordinance by the (Kirkland) City Council.
For more than a year and a half, citizens who love the beauty of Kirkland’s pedestrian-friendly waterfront boulevard have been lobbying the city to reduce the ultra-high residential density of Potala Village, a huge apartment project at Lake Street and 10th Avenue South next to the Michael’s Dry Cleaning lot.
When my eldest daughter started Kindergarten in Lake Washington School District three years ago, I was so excited for her to start her elementary educational adventure.
Opponents of Referendum 74, the referendum that legalizes same sex marriage, will soon deluge us with literature, television and radio adds that are fear based, inaccurate, and full of half-truths. They will do this in the name of “religious faith.”
After reading your article (“Keeping the trails alive: volunteer keeps parks walkable,” Aug. 1), I am fairly certain that your Stu Clark was my scoutmaster in the early 1970s while I was living in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
It seems there is no end to the city planners’ devious efforts to get the Potala project built despite 18 months of citizen objection, two moratoriums by the city council, legal objections and countless meetings.
The Aug. 24 edition of the Reporter featured an editorial on funding of Washington State Parks. The writer suggested that funds for maintaining the statewide system of more than 100 parks could be allocated from already raised tax revenue.
I was very honored to have been a sponsor at a Garden Party for Marriage Equality held over in Seattle last weekend. It was co-hosted by the owners of They Lobby Bar and was an extremely well-attended event that raised over $20,000.
At this point it may not come as any surprise that the EIS for Potala had its scope of study reduced when Justin Stewart of the Potala team requested (through an email) that the city see if Inova could provide a study that would meet the budget of the developer.
Eosinophilic Gastritis is a rare and hereditary disease which my youngest son, Jacob, was diagnosed with at six months after three months of losing weight and constant acid-reflux.
Although the contract says so, Waste Management should not be on the hook for penalties for not picking up the trash, recycling and yard waste for 10 days.
I read with interest two recent letters to the editor related to the candidates running for the District 1 state rep position. I agree with the writers that Dawn McCravey and Rosemary McAuliffe represent very different choices for this district.
Last week on the 31st I was pulled over in kirkland on 116th Street, near Pump It Up and a car dealership, around 1 p.m. by a male officer with reddish-blonde hair.
A comment in regards to the book 50 Shades of Grey being sold at Costco.
Though I appreciate the concern about school funding of Reggie Gausman, who wrote on July 25 about the cost of the field replacement at Juanita High School, I want to provide him and other interested readers with additional information on that field and its use.
It has come to my attention that Costco is selling the book series “50 Shades of Gray.”
Rosemary McAuliffe was elected to the Washington State Legislature nearly 20 years ago. During that time Washington State has fallen to 45th in the nation in terms of education funding. Class sizes have increased, leaving our classrooms among the most crowded in the nation.
As a 35-plus year resident of Kirkland and local REALTOR®, I strongly support Cyrus Habib for State Representative in the 48th District.
As we receive our voter’s pamphlets and ballots, I’ve noticed an increase in negative campaigning against candidates for state office.
I was under the impression that the schools were having money problems but they have enough money to put in a field for $900,000 at Juanita High School!
