Prop. 1 is taxation without representation | Letter

I want to tell you what I think Kirkland Proposition 1 is really all about.

I want to tell you what I think Kirkland Proposition 1 is really all about.

If the voters approve the proposition, the City Council, operating as a Metropolitan Park District (MPD), has the ability to raise property taxes to an additional 75 cents per $1,000 [assessed house value] ($375 for a $500,000 home) without voter approval. In addition, only the MPD can abolish itself; the Kirkland voters have no way to get rid of the MPD.

I oppose this proposition and if you agree that this is ‘taxation without representation,’ please help in the effort to defeat Kirkland Proposition 1.
