The founder of the scouting movement said that scouting was a game with a purpose. That purpose is to teach young people to make ethical and moral decisions throughout their lives. This is done through the ideals found in the Scout Law and Scout Oath.
Scout unit youth in the greater Kirkland and Redmond area donated more than 7,000 service hours to the communities where these young people live and go to school. Scouting currently reaches almost 20 percent of the youth of scouting age in this area. How does scouting do this, through the use of games with a purpose, that purpose include becoming better informed and participating citizens in their communities, their country and the world, by helping other people, being prepared, being trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.
On Thursday evening, between 7-8:30 p.m. there will be a scouting open house at the LDS church building located at 7720 126 Ave NE in Kirkland. This event will open to all, especially those between the ages of 7-18. Come and see what kind of games Scouts play and associate with both youth and adults involved in the scouting program in this area.
