The recent action by the King County Council to assess a $20 fee on car tab renewals is not the “right call” you asserted in a recent editorial.
The right call would have been to put the measure on the ballot in November. Instead, the council passed it in a closed-door session without any public input.
Washington voters have declared in no uncertain terms they oppose using car tabs as a way to impose taxes. The council knows this. By passing this measure they have shown utter disregard for the will of the people.
Shame on them.
And shame on us if we forget when the current council members come up for re-election. By the way, the $20 fee represents a 33 percent increase in the cost of my next year’s car tabs! Giving me some bus tickets in return doesn’t help me at all.
Let Metro sell them and give me back my $20.
