I started reading the Reporter about six months ago, after many years of complaining about having to remove it from my driveway every week. I’ve since found it to be informative and useful, especially in regard to items of special interest to local residents.
I’ve been particularly interested in information about the annexation area into Kirkland. A case in point was the recent article about the role of neighborhoods in the city’s allocation of services. I thought the article was an unbiased discussion of the potential conflict between current city service allocation policy based on several small neighborhoods and the annexation area with fewer and larger ones. I didn’t sense any suggestion within the article the neighborhoods in the current city limits or in the annexation area were any better or worse, just different. The question is what changes must be made to current city policy in regard to allocation of services.
I would hope the city invites neighborhood council representatives from the annexation area to join with the other neighborhoods in discussing fair and appropriate strategies for the future. Thanks for bringing this important issue to the attention of the public. Congratulations on producing such a fine weekly newspaper. Keep up the good work!
