Benefit River Rafting Trip for Hopelink: Escape the rain, have an adventure and help out Hopelink during this Wenatchee River rafting trip on May 21 in Leavenworth. This is a family event for ages 10 and up. Rivers Inc. will provide all rafting gear, great guide, comfy wetsuit, and a hearty riverside buffet lunch. Cost is $65 per person; all proceeds go directly to Hopelink. Must register with full payment one week in advance. Shredder Day: The Iron Mountain mobile shredding truck will help the community to destroy those old confidential documents in confidence from 9 a.m. to noon May 21 at 500 108th Ave. N.E. in Bellevue. BNSF Treasure Hunt/Walk: Do you know what was found buried at Lakeview Elementary School back in 1996? On Sunday May 22, you may get to find out what’s buried under your feet in Kirkland and what was happening at Carillon Point 100 years ago. You can find out the answers and more during a treasure hunt/walk/run that connects Kirkland neighbors, neighborhoods, and businesses. By walking on what could one day be a community trail, you’ll get to explore Kirkland in a new and different way. The walk begins at 10 a.m. May 22 at the South Kirkland Park and Ride. The walk runs from the Park and Ride lot to N.E. 68th in Houghton, which is approximately 3-3.5 miles. Cost is $4. For information, visit www.cascadeoc.org.

Map Your Neighborhood Train-the-Facilitator: Learn the nine steps to take immediately following a disaster during this event that runs from 7-9 pm. May 23 at Kirkland Fire Station No. 26, 9930 124th Ave. N.E., Kirkland. Also learn how to develop a neighborhood sills and equipment inventory; map your neighborhood and identify areas of concern such as gas meters; verify which neighbors need extra help in a disaster and more.

WWII Ex-Prisoner of War: World War II American ex-prisoner of war Joseph Earl Regan, Kirkland resident will unfold his story during an event that begins at 7 p.m. May 25 at the Kirkland Heritage Society, 203 Market St. KHS will honor all our service men at this meeting. Regan has a very intense and exciting presentation of his service and captivity during WII plus his release when General Patton’s troops freed many prisoners in this camp. Pancaking to End Homelessness: Kiwanis Club of Kirkland, KITH (Kirkland Interfaith Transitional Housing) and Kirkland Alliance of Neighborhoods present “Pancaking to End Homelessness,” supporting KITH and 7 Hills of Kirkland Bicycle Ride. The event runs from 7:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, at the Peter Kirk Community Center, 352 Kirkland Ave. Suggested donation is $7 per person.

7 Hills of Kirkland Cycling Event:

One of Kirkland’s premier cycling events, the 7 Hills of Kirkland runs from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 30 at Marina Park. Riders choose from the traditional 7 Hill route (approximately 40 miles), the popular Metric Century route, or the challenging Century route—all routes begin and end at Marina Park. FARMERS’ MARKETS

Juanita Friday Market: The Juanita Friday Market is now open and runs from 3-7 p.m. Fridays at Juanita Beach Park, 9703 N.E. Juanita Drive. Due to the delay in the construction work by the beach side, the market will operate by the Forbes House and should move back to the beach side by the second week of June.The market hosts 35-plus vendors selling: fresh organic fruits & vegetables, beautiful flowers, bedding plants & herbs, honey products, dry dip mixes, chutneys, kettle corn, taffy, cupcakes, breads, and other tasty treats. The artisan section will showcase fine jewelry, pottery, pet supplies, face painting, soaps and lotions. Live music and performances all afternoon and evening. Fun Kid’s Crafts and Activities each week. First Baptist Church returns with their beloved puppet show the first Friday of each month. May 20 is Fresh from the Farms Day, with live entertainment by Bonnie Birch.

Kirkland Wednesday Market: The market will run from 2-7 p.m. June 1 through Sept. 28 on Park Lane. Produce featured varies by the season, but is all locally grown.
