The Animal Hospice, End of Life and Palliative Care (AHELP) Project and Pasado’s Safe Haven will host a book signing and reception for Lola Ball, author of “When Your Dog Has Cancer: Making the Right Decisions for You and Your Dog.”

Ball learned the hard way about canine cancer, experiencing it with her two beloved dogs, Porter and Jasper. When Porter was diagnosed with cancer, she wanted to provide the highest quality of life for their remaining time together. She researched the principles of hospice philosophy and end-of-life care.

She is now dedicated to helping others during their journeys and authored this book.

Ball is a co-founder of the AHELP Project, with service on their Board of Directors. She is also a passionate volunteer and supporter of Pasado’s Safe Haven.

This event occurs from 2-3 p.m. Saturday, March 23 at Seattle Veterinary Specialists Education Room. SVS is located at 11814 115th Ave. N.E., Kirkland.

During this event, you can learn:

• That many of the concepts and techniques employed in human hospice and palliative care can be applied successfully to dogs with cancer.

• The power of continuing to interact with your dog—walks, petting, grooming, massage—for as long as the dog is physically able to enjoy it.

• What can be done in terms of nutrition and other forms of natural care to make your dog as strong and comfortable as he can be given the situation.

• How “natural death” can be an alternative to euthanasia in some cases.
