Gini Chase, a wildlife artist from Woodinville, will be featured in the upcoming May Miniature Show at Parklane Gallery in Kirkland from April 28 through May 31.
Last year at age 89, Chase, who is now 90, decided to try something new. She can’t remember a time in her life when she wasn’t creating something, and among her creations are sculpture, ceramics, stone art and painting. Just as she was about to give up painting, a fellow artist encouraged her to try miniature painting.
An inspiration to all who think that because of age or fear of failure they cannot start something new, Chase has been now been painting her remarkable wildlife miniatures for a year. The astoundingly realistic four-inch-by-four-inch paintings depict wolves, buffalo, polar bear and many other creatures.
A 30-year resident of Woodinville, Chase is mostly self-taught, but 20 years ago, she began studying art at Arts Umbrella Art Center in Bothell.
Motivated by neither fame nor fortune, she likes to trade her paintings for services such as massage and chiropractic, and many of her neighbors are also fortunate recipients of her unique paintings.
A selection of Chase’s miniatures will be on display at the Parklane Gallery 23rd Annual Miniature Show, 130 Park Lane, in downtown Kirkland.
