The digestive tract and the supportive organs will be talked about, and how to support their health and maximize nutrition and immunity. Katya Difani, the founder of Herban Wellness, will pair up with Melissa Schisler, a local dietician and massage therapist, to co-teach this class. This class will focus on foods and herbs that help promote digestive health, focusing on inflammatory digestive tract disorders including acid reflux and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), as well as general indigestion. Difani will share her herbal knowledge, and Schisler will share her food expertise.
The cost for the class is $20 and includes sampling of herbal teas and supportive foods and helpful handouts for you to take home.
Summer Cordials and Oxymiels
Capture the fruits of summer for winter enjoyment and holiday gifts
By Katya Difani; 6:30-8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 26:
This class is designed to stimulate creativity by creating enjoyable herb and fruit blends extracted and preserved in brandy or vinegar. Cordials are sweetened (with sugar, fruit juice, or honey) alcohol macerations that become smoother and tastier with age, so will make great gifts for the holidays. Bring the most succulent berries and freshest herbs. Teacher Katya Difani will provide a variety of fresh, tasty herbs so everyone can take home a small jar of their own special concoction. Oxymiels are honey-vinegars. Vinegar is a great way to extract minerals from herbs and can be made more enjoyable with the addition of honey, to be savored on salads, freshly steamed greens, and even by the spoonful. Recipes will be provided. Because some alcohol will be used in this demonstration, although not imbibed, all attendees must be over the age of 21.
The cost for the class is $20 and includes sampling of herbal teas and supportive foods and helpful handouts for you to take home.
Herbs and Foods for Skin Health
By Melissa Schisler and Katya Difani; 6:30-8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 2:
This class focuses on skin health. The skin is our largest organ, and it is most definitely an organ of elimination. It deserves our attention, as it is a very visible organ and is intimately connected with the internal organs of elimination, particularly the liver, and as many of us are aware, to our hormonal systems. Many factors effect the skin, and this class will focus on nutrients for skin health that can be obtained through foods, lifestyle choices that impact skin health, and herbs that encourage healthy elimination of toxins and help balance inflammation.
The cost of the class is $20 and includes sampling of herbal teas and supportive foods and helpful handouts for you to take home.
Stress: better
adaptation with herbs and foods
By Katya Difani; 8:30-10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 5:
We all experience stress, and depending on our coping mechanisms or how intense the stress is for us, it can have noticeable effects on our bodies over time. There are a lot of methods for dealing with stress and helping our bodies and minds thrive even in the face of it. Breathing and visualization exercises, meditation, regular physical activity, eating lots of fruits and vegetables and whole foods, among many others, are some techniques that can be helpful. In this class, learn about how stress impacts the body and organ systems and nutrients and herbs that can help adapt the body to everyday stressors.
We will talk about different herbs and classifications of herbs that can be helpful and how they work in the body. We will sample some tea and tincture blends. You will be given a handout summarizing some of the herbs and actions we will discuss, as well as a couple of recipes for blends you can try at home.
Cost for this class is $10 and a minimum of three people is needed to proceed with the class.
