Dr. William Brown, a professor of Old Testament at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, is coming to Kirkland on April 24-25 to deliver a series of lectures on faith and science. These presentations, open to the general public, will provide opportunities for the audience to think about how science and scripture can work together and how we can read ancient stories in new ways.
The lectures will be held at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church at the corner of Northeast 124th Street and 100th Avenue Northeast.
“We hear so much about how faith and science clash,” said Holy Spirit Pastor Katy McCallum-Sachse, “including, for example, debates about ‘intelligent design’ and even ‘Darwin-fish’ bumper stickers. This is an intriguing opportunity to explore how faith and science can coexist.”
Brown will present, “What does a Bible Scholar do with Science? The Case of Genesis – Part One,” at 7 p.m. on April 24. He will present the second part of that topic, along with another presentation, “From Ash Heap to Asteroids: The Book of Job as a Book of Wonder,” at 9 a.m. on April 25. A $20 registration fee covers all three sessions. To register, visit www.hslckirkland.org or email maryb@hslckirkland.org.
Holy Spirit Lutheran is located at 10021 NE 124th Street in Kirkland.
