For the first time in Kirkland, Lake Washington Institute of Technology and the King County EcoConsumer public outreach program are partnering to offer a free repair cafe to mend household items.
KC EcoConsumer started the repair cafe events in an effort to keep items out of landfills, conserve resources and save consumers money.
Anyone is welcome to bring their small household items and clothing, and experienced fixers will repair them while also helping attendees learn repair techniques. Those who attend must be present during the repair and should only bring items that can easily be carried by one person. Items that are leaking, dangerous, contain gasoline or have a strong odor should not be brought to the event.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday at LWTech’s Design Innovation Research Technology (DIRT) Lab, in room E135 in the East Building on the Kirkland campus.
