It’s got machine guns, a bullet-proof shield, revolving number plates, tracking device, oil slick sprayer, nail spreader and smoke screen, all controlled from factory-installed toggles and switches hidden in the center arm-rest.
What may very well be the most famous car in the world, the Bond movie Aston Martin DB5 will be the highlight of the Ninth Annual Kirkland Concours d’Elegance on Sept. 11 at Carillon Point.
Well-known around the world by its original UK registration number, FMP 7B, this Aston Martin is one of only two, and the sole remaining, of the original ‘007’ DB5s as featured on screen with Sean Connery behind the wheel in the enormously popular Goldfinger and Thunberball movies.
With its “rather interesting modifications” originally conceived by Oscar-award-winning special effects expert, John Stears, this authentic Bond movie car is factory-fitted with the full complement of operational “Q-Branch” gadgets.
The Kirkland Concours will also feature more than 100 of the world’s finest vintage automobiles, motorcycles, and wooden boats.
Among car enthusiasts this family-oriented event has quickly become recognized as one of the premier concours events in the country with participant vehicles selected from across the United States and Canada.
All profits from this spectacular event benefit uncompensated children’s care at Seattle Children’s Hospital and Evergreen Hospital Medical Center, with more than $1 million already donated to these needy recipients.
This esteemed “contest of elegance” is judged by national and international experts. One award is judged and presented by 13 junior judges, a group of 6-9th graders from various Lake Washington School District schools.
These judges also gain an understanding and appreciation for automotive history, the restoration process, and the mechanics of a non-profit event.
Nearly 300 volunteers, most of whom return each year, make this event possible.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 11 at Carillon Point. Adult tickets are $25, youth tickets (ages 7-17) are $10 and children under age 7 are free. For information, visit www.kirklandconcours.com or call 425-985-6308.
