March opens with a night of soul, as English-born James Hunter takes the stage with his band at 8 p.m. tomorrow night. Hunter has been atop the Billboard blues chart in the last several years and has toured around the world, working with Van Morrison in the past.
His 2006 album, People Gonna Talk, was nominated for a Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album. The band features Jonathan Lee on the drums, Lee Badau and Damian Hand on the saxophones, Andrew Kingslow on keyboards and percussion and Jason Wilson on bass.
Tango Scent, a show of music and dance from Argentina, is the only Wednesday date of the month, set for 8 p.m. on March 8.
The first of three folk performances of the month, Altan, comes to Kirkland for an 8 p.m. show on March 10. Altan brings a strong Irish tradition, and has been entertaining audiences worldwide since the late 1980s. Altan signed with Virgin Records in 1994, and still includes three of the original members.
The group was in France in January, and will return to France for an Irish music festival in late March.
Enchantment Theatre Company presents a stage production of Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit stories in four performances on March 11 and 12. The production is based on ‘The Tale of Peter Rabbit,’ ‘The Tale of Benjamin Bunny,’ and ‘The Tale of Mr. Tod’ — but unlike in the books, the characters have now grown up.
Shows are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on both dates.
Geoffrey Castle, a well-known Kirkland staple, will play his 12th-annual St. Patrick’s Celebration concert at 8 p.m. on March 17. Castle is a regular at Kirkland Performance Center and other Eastside venues, including the summer concert series and the tree lighting.
Al Stewart brings yet another folk-centric act on March 18 — already a sold-out show. Stewart was big in the 1960s and 1970s, and his best album — Year of the Cat — reached the No. 5 position on US billboards in 1976.
A bilingual take on one of history’s favorite farytales, Cinderella en Espana is the story of Cinderella set in Barcelona, Spain. The show is free for kids under 18, and is set for 12:30 p.m. on March 19.
Jet City Improv, one of three ‘community favorite’ productions, returns to the KPC stage for an improvised take on Shakespeare at 8 p.m. on March 24. The Washington Wind Symphony’s spring performance is set for 2 p.m. on March 26.
