Kirkland loves its cars. Witness July’s Classic Car show. Or next month’s Concours d’Elegance at Carillon Point.
So much so that residents of the Lake Vue Gardens Care Center decided that it might be easier to simply bring the party to their own home. So for the 10th year running, the Juanita nursing home will host its own car show in the building’s 120th Street parking lot from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Featuring the music of Tim Casey & the Bluescats and dancers Eastside Alleycats, the show will host more than 80 cars; free hot dogs, popcorn and soft drinks; and a number of generous door prizes from area merchants.
Lake Vue activities director Linda Svonavec said residents, some of whom are wheelchair-bound, went to several area businesses to raise money and prizes for the event. One of them, Carol Eiden, has been car show fundraising for the past nine years.
Some of the prizes available include two free visits to Lee Johnson Chevrolet for lube, oil and filter service; a $100 gift certificate to downtown’s Steakhouse 21; a $50 gift certificate from Fred Meyer; and dance lessons from Arthur Murray Dance Studio (worth $395).
“This car show provides them an opportunity to reminisce about the past, share in stories with others, laugh and forget about being in a nursing home for a day.” Svonavec said. “They look forward to this all year.”
