Meet the Authors: Meet the four authors of “Seattle in Black and White,” a newly released book that is an eyewitness account of the 1960s civil rights movement in Washington State. Joan Singler, founding member of Seattle CORE, and Jean Durning, Bettylou Valentine and Maid Adams, all CORE members since 1959 and the early 1960’s will discuss the early days of the civil rights movement and Seattle’s efforts to fight for racial equality, justice and public access during this pivotal and highly charged time in America’s history. Part memoir, part history, the book tells the remarkable story of activists who “pierced the veil of complacency…and forced the city to begin dismantling its systems of segregation.” Happens at 2 p.m. April 30 at Parkplace Books.

Meet the Author: PacNW mystery author, Mary Daheim will discuss and sign copies of her newest title in the Emma Lord series, “Alpine Vengeance.” Written with her usual wicked sense of humor, “Alpine Vengeance” has Emma Lord investigating a bizarre series of anonymous letters alleging the wrongful murder conviction of a recently deceased man. Take Time to Read Book Cover Walking Tour: Placed by the King County Library System (KCLS) in collaboration with community organizations and local businesses, more than 100 literary artworks will mark the first-ever book cover walking tour in Kirkland that runs through May 30. These outdoor community galleries of book art and audio narrative is an innovative way for the public to interact and engage with books and reading in a surprising, fun way.
