Families are invited to join Sponge, the award-winning children’s language program, to celebrate its 10th anniversary at a Global Gala from 1:30-4 p.m. in the Mt. Baker neighborhood of Seattle. Sponge has a location in Kirkland.
This free event includes dazzling performances by Thistle Theater and the Melody Dance Group, cupcake decorating and crepe making, crafts, mini-language classes and treats from around the world.
Families can enjoy a performance of Thistle Theater’s “Dance Around the World with Jennifer.” Dressing in an array of costumes, dance teacher Jennifer Carrol will teach children cultural dances and share intriguing stories from different countries during this interactive adventure.
Seattle’s Melody Dance Group will also perform a Chinese folk dance. This centuries old art form showcases stirring music, magnificent costumes and graceful ribbon wands.
The fun continues with activities for children. Arlette Aranibar of Cakes and More will help children learn the fine art of cupcake decorating. Kids are also invited to create crepes, the popular French pancake, during Crepes with Clo, led by Clotilde Pitsch. Rounding out the day are make and take crafts from around the world, stories, global refreshments and free, fun-filled Spanish, Mandarin, French, Japanese, Hindi and German classes taught by Sponge’s native-speaking teachers.
This event is geared toward children ages 10 and younger and their families.
