May is Bike Month, and the City of Kirkland is planning to host two celebration stations as part of Bike Everywhere Day on May 19.
The stations will be located in Marina Park and at the Sixth Street entrance to the Cross Kirkland Corridor (CKC) from 6-9 a.m. that day, and city staff will provide refreshments, information and swag to those who are taking part, according to City of Kirkland Transportation Planner Stephen Padua.
“We’ll be thanking people for riding their bikes,” he said. “We’re supportive of all the cyclists in the city.”
Padua said staff will also be available to talk with people about projects the city is involved in that are related to multi-modal transportation.
“We want to get the word out about the city’s transportation master plan,” he said. “We’re trying to plan for all modes of transportation.”
A third celebration station
Chainline Brewing Co. and Kirkland Bicycle are also partnering for a third celebration station, from 4-6 p.m. on Bike Everywhere Day at Chainline, located at 503 Sixth St. S.
“We have a happy hour event planned for Bike Everywhere Day,” Kirkland Bicycle sales associate Nick Miller said.
The station will include free bike checks, a raffle and a free beer for cyclists who ride there (as long as the keg lasts).
A variety of Bike Month events are being organized across the Puget Sound region by Cascade Bicycle Club.
“Cascade’s been very supportive, giving us stuff to hand out,” Padua said.
