Jean and Eric Guth won the Tot Lot Top Tom award for the best of the tomatoes during Kirkland’s Tot Lot Pea Patch harvest festival on Sept. 14. The couple used a sun gold variety with a sweet taste.
During the event, pea-patchers enjoyed a variety of homemade goodies made from their harvests. Nearly 1000 varieties of vegetables were grown this season in the small lots, located next to the Tot Lot park at 111 Ninth Street.
The Tot Lot is made up of 12 individual plots and are rented by the season for $40 from the city of Kirkland. Each plat should be worked by the pea-patcher and cannot be used for commercial purposes. Kirkland runs two pea patches, the other of which is located on Ohde Avenue.
