Yearlong Kirkland Fish Frolic Along the Lake seeks artists

Kirkland Fish Frolic Along the Lake announces a second call to artists for the yearlong celebration of everything Northwest and especially Kirkland.

Kirkland Fish Frolic Along the Lake announces a second call to artists for the yearlong celebration of everything Northwest and especially Kirkland.

Spawned at the Kirkland Summerfest 2013, the Kirkland Fish Frolic displayed five commissioned fish sculptures as the start of this yearlong celebration. Artist Don Rothwell created 20 more base fish sculptures ready to go to various artists, commissioned to embellish them in the artist’s own style. Once finished, all the works of art will be displayed at community festivals and by select sponsors.

The final reveal of all sculptures will take place in the summer of 2014, with a full exhibition and gala auction of the sculptures. Proceeds from the auction will be split between the decorating artist and partner nonprofits, such as the Kirkland Events Foundation.

About fish frolic

Kirkland Fish Frolic Along the Lake is a yearlong art project commissioning 25 artists to embellish base fish sculptures in their own style. These 48-inch long “salmonesque” fiberglass fish sculptures have been created by artist Don Rothwell.

Once finished, the works of art may be displayed at community festivals and by select sponsors throughout the year.

These fish will take part in several displays and events in Kirkland during the spring and summer of 2014, before being auctioned in celebration of Kirkland, Kirkland Summerfest 2014 and the local and regional artists taking part in the Kirkland Fish Frolic. Five fish sculptures have already been finished and displayed at Kirkland Summerfest 2013.

The remaining completed sculptures are due by or before March 15, 2014. Proceeds from the auction will be split between the decorating artist and partner nonprofits like the Kirkland Events Foundation. See more on the Kirkland Fish Frolic Facebook page.
