Alcohol and speed caused a crash on Avondale Road Northeast in Redmond that killed a 30-year-old Kirkland resident early last Friday, police said.

Rafesson de Oliveira, a native of Recife, Brazil, living in Kirkland, died from blunt force trauma injuries to the head and abdomen, King County medical examiners confirmed.

Redmond Police Department spokesman Jim Bove said Oliveira was driving more than 100 miles an hour and not wearing a seat belt when he lost control of his car, hit several trees and eventually landed on the side of the road. No one else was involved in the crash.

Oliveira was traveling south on Avondale Road in a white Cadillac shortly before 3 a.m. when residents heard a crash and called 911, Bove said.

Avondale Road, which has a 40 mph speed limit, was closed for more than seven hours while the investigation was conducted.

During interviews, Redmond Police learned that the driver had consumed alcohol earlier in the evening.
