The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter police blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 1,000 per week.
Between Nov. 22-26, the Kirkland Police Department reported 358 traffic violations, five DUIs, 13 school zone traffic violations, three animal calls, 18 alarm calls, seven noise complaints, 11 calls of disturbance, 11 thefts, 16 car prowls, four car thefts, 21 traffic accidents, nine calls of civil disturbance, 12 reported burglaries, four domestic violence calls, eight calls for harassment, four reports of illegal drugs, four acts of fraud, 12 malicious mischief reports, one sex offense, one case of arson, one robbery and one vice report. At least 29 people were arrested.
Nov. 22
Illegal drugs: 5:44 p.m., 13000 block of NE 128th Place. A 20-year-old woman was cited for possession of heroin, methamphetamine, Clonazepam and an unidentified pill that she said was morphine. The drugs were hidden in her bra. A concerned citizen initially called police to the residence for a domestic violence altercation.
Nov. 23
Vice: 8:26 p.m., 10500 block of Northup Way. A 22-year-old known prostitute on backpage.com was contacted by police at the LaQuinta Inn and Suites. With cooperation from management the woman was removed from the hotel, placed on a no rent list and was told to “spread the word.” The hotel then informed Kirkland police there has been an upsurge in activity and expressed interest in working with the police department.
Obstructing: 2 a.m., 13000 block of NE 70th Place. A 26-year-old man was arrested for starting to walk away from an ongoing physical disturbance at Tech City Bowl. The man was involved in the group who started the disturbance.
Nov. 24
Liquor violation: 6:55 p.m., 12200 block of 113th Ave. NE. A male and female, both minors, were arrested for exhibiting signs of intoxication. Preliminary breath tests revealed a .056 and a .039.
Warrant: 2:50 p.m., 8200 block of 122nd Ave. NE. A 22-year-old man was arrested on a Department of Corrections escape from home custody warrant after he was accused of stealing a 44-year-old man’s diamond ring.
Assault: 2:15 a.m., 12100 block of NE 124th St. A 24-year-old man was arrested for assaulting a 23-year-old woman at Denny’s Restaurant.
Nov. 26
Arson: 4:26 p.m., 4500 block of 110th Ave. NE. A caller reported seeing four juvenile males start a fire in the park near the “peace bowl.” A witness said the males attached something to a tree and lit it on fire, however, when firefighters arrived there was no fire.
Trespass: 11:30 p.m., 11800 block 98th Ave. NE. A 21-year-old man was arrested on an Issaquah marijuana possession warrant after he and a 20-year-old man trespassed Bishop’s Alehouse. The two refused to leave and “acted up.”
Domestic violence: 1:19 a.m., 12200 block of 82nd Ave. NE. A 30-year-old man was arrested for grabbing his 28-year-old girlfriend’s arm, hand and stomach during an argument. The woman told her boyfriend several times to stop and that he was hurting her but the man persisted. The woman defended herself by pushing him away.
Nov. 27
Domestic violence: 1 a.m., 13100 block of 107th Place NE. A 37-year-old man was arrested for hitting and grabbing his 36-year-old girlfriend. As she tried to call 911, he took her phone. According to the police report, their 21-month-old son witnessed the incident. The man fled the scene but officers located him some time after.
