BEST High School’s most successful fund raiser yet brings in $1,800

With the help of staff, parents, and community businesses, the school grossed more than $1,800 to support the school’s ASB Activities Fund.

BEST High School had its best fund raiser to date recently. The leadership class hosted “An Evening with BEST” on April 19. Much like the school’s Bite of BEST events in the past, BEST hosted a dinner but added a silent auction.

With the help of staff, parents, and community businesses, the school grossed more than $1,800 to support the school’s ASB Activities Fund. This fund helps pay for school clubs, trips, activities, and dances, particularly for students who are unable to afford to participate.

Devin Warrick, a senior at BEST, used this opportunity to complete his senior project by providing a cooking demonstration. He prepared fajitas for everyone to enjoy. In addition, he provided a Cinco de Mayo themed basket for the silent auction.

This is the first time BEST has had a silent auction and it helped complete the night. Donations from businesses like Metropolitan Market, Starbucks in Houghton, Vortex Music & Movies in Kirkland, and the Rat City Rollergirls were some of the top bidding items.

An artist and student at BEST, Zoe Geare, donated four pieces of art that were also top sellers. Families of students and staff from BEST and Family Learning Center K-12 donated other items and baskets for the auction.

The leadership class was instrumental in helping to make this night a success: Jacob Sanborn, Bonnie Workman, Gayle Lunsford, Shelby Whipple, Christian Monroy, Jonathan Leegwater, James Farnsworth, Zoe Geare, Ali Telkamp, Zach Woods, and Matt Robb helped organize and facilitate this event.  Since BEST does not have a PTSA due to constant movement of students, fund-raising events fall on the shoulders of staff, students, families and volunteers. This event, and others like it, would not be possible without the generous support of the community.
