Legislation championed by Rep. Larry Springer, D-Kirkland, that would ensure Washington remains a leader in aerospace manufacturing and innovation has passed the House of Representatives.

The package of bills extends existing tax incentives and provides ongoing workforce training for aerospace workers.

“Boeing is the preeminent manufacturer in our state, but this bill is about more than just one company,” said Springer. “It’s about the 1,350 aerospace employers doing business in 35 of Washington’s thirty nine counties, and all the workers they employ.”

Springer served on Gov. Inslee’s 777X Legislative Task Force that laid the groundwork for the legislation. The measures include strict accountability to Boeing’s promise to build the 777X in Washington, creating thousands of jobs and improving economic vitality for the region.

Even before the task force, Springer has spent years working to bolster Washington’s economic competitiveness in aerospace, manufacturing and other key industries.

“I’m honored to have been part of the effort to pass this critical legislation. Thousands of current and future aerospace workers will be able to provide for their families and give back to their communities because of the actions we have taken today,” noted Springer.

The bills, HB 2088 and HB 2089, passed the Senate on Nov. 9 and will now head to the Governor’s desk, where he is expected to quickly sign it into law.
