The body of a man found dead near John Muir Elementary has been identified by the King County Medical Examiner as that of 33-year-old Daniel Lee Dale.

The body of a man found dead near John Muir Elementary has been identified by the King County Medical Examiner as that of 33-year-old Daniel Lee Dale. Dale had been a Kirkland resident, but at the time of his death was living just north of the city, according to Kirkland Police Department spokesperson Lt. Mike Murray.

According to Kirkland Police, although Dale had shown suicidal behavior in the past there was no evidence of any foul play, and the medical examiner has yet to determine the cause of death.

The heat, along with the duration between the death and when the body was found, contributed to decomposition and made it difficult for authorities to identify Dale, though they were fairly certain at the time of the identity. Dental records were used to confirm Dale’s identity, according to Murray.

The original story reported Dale’s body being found near Edith Moulton Park, but the actual location was the woods near the 13300 block of NE 138th Pl., just south of John Muir Elementary in the Kingsgate neighborhood.
