Between Jan. 13-20, the Kirkland Police Department reported 481 traffic violations (eight DUI), 24 traffic accidents, 13 noise complaints, 24 thefts, 10 domestic violence, 29 alarms, three motor vehicle prowls, one car theft, three burglaries, 11 disturbances, six cases of fraud, 10 harassments and three reports of weapons. At least 35 people were arrested.
Jan. 20
Domestic: 10:43 p.m., 11800 block of 97th Lane N.E. A 32-year-old Kirkland woman came home intoxicated and began arguing with her boyfriend about their relationship. When the man tried to leave the house he was grabbed, pushed and punched by the woman. The victim had some scratches on his neck and complained of pain. The woman was arrested.
Domestic: 12:40 a.m., 9700 block of N.E. 128th Street. When officers arrived at the home a man answered the door with no shirt on revealing scratches and he had welts on the face, neck, torso, arms and back. The man stated the injuries were caused by his girlfriend during an argument that got physical. The girlfriend denied the assault, stating that she pushed the man but only after he punched her first. The girlfriend claimed she was not injured and was arrested for fourth degree assault.
Theft: 2:03 p.m., 8600 120th Ave. N.E. A 52-year-old Kirkland woman was arrested for attempting to shoplift groceries from Costco.
Jan. 17
DUI: 1:48 a.m. A 30-year-old Issaquah man was arrested for DUI.
Jan. 16
Trespass: 6:22 p.m., 312 Central Way. A 43-year-old homeless man was arrested for second degree criminal trespass at the downtown Wendy’s.
Theft: 12:47 a.m., 15 Lake Street. A 28-year-old Bellevue man was detained by security staff at the Lake Street Grill after he was found to have taken a bottle of alcohol from behind the bar. When confronted by security about the theft, he denied taking anything. The bottle of alcohol was found down his pant leg. He attempted to run but was held until officers arrived.
Theft: 4:57 p.m., Parkplace Center. An employee of an unspecified business reported that a black male in his 20’s, standing 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-8 wearing all black and a black backpack, stole $285 from the unsecured till. The suspect fled on foot.
Jan. 15
Weapons: 11:13 a.m., 10601 N.E. 132nd Street. Immediately following the Martin Luther King Day assembly at Juanita High School, a group of Brazilian students and a group of Caucasian students got into a fight over previous racial slanders. One student was armed with brass knuckles.
Jan. 14
Illegal substance: 4:43 a.m., 400 block of Fourth Avenue. An adult female was arrested for possessing an illegal substance after suspected Oxycontin and drug paraphernalia was found in her purse.
Assault: 5 p.m., 300 11th Ave. W. A 29-year-old male was arrested for fourth degree assault after his girlfriend reported that he punched her in the left shoulder, causing her pain, when the two were arguing about the stresses of life. The man admitted to the verbal argument, but denied ever striking his girlfriend while she was holding her young child. The man was taken into custody without incident.
Jan. 13
Domestic: 3:53 a.m., 11400 block of 105th Center N.E. An officer was dispatched to a report of an unwanted woman walking away from a residence without a shirt. The officer located the woman where she was walking in the 48 degree rain, wearing a workout suit with no socks or shoes. The woman had blood on her face, her upper lip was swollen and she was bleeding from her right hand. When the officer asked her what happened, the woman began to cry, stating that her face really hurt and that the reporting party had strangled her. She put both of her hands up to her throat when she made the statement. The officer observed a small red mark on the side of her throat. She told the officer that she had been dating the man for several months and moved in with him recently. The two got into an argument and the man threw and broke a fan. When the woman tried to leave the man sat on her and began to choke her. The woman attempted to scream but could not breath enough to scream loud. She began to fear for her life and started to claw at him. After getting free the man grabbed her again, putting her in a head lock and again started to choke her. She continued to claw at him and stated that she thought she was going to die. She escaped the man’s clutches and ran from the residence. The man as arrested for fourth domestic violence fourth degree assault.
Car prowl: 1:30 p.m., 2200 Market Street. A 46-year-old woman had her vehicle broken into while parked at Juanita Bay Park. The woman’s bright pink purse was stolen from the vehicle. Charges were made to her credit card.
