The Kirkland Fish Frolic organizers are putting out a second call to artists for the Kirkland Fish Frolic, where 25 fiberglass fish sculptures will be embellished and decorated by selected artists for a citywide display and Gala Auction.
These fish will take part in several displays and events in Kirkland during the spring and summer of 2014, before being auctioned in celebration of Kirkland, Kirkland Summerfest 2014, and the local and regional artists taking part in the Kirkland Fish Frolic.
Due to schedule conflicts, the selection committee meeting has been moved to January – so they’re taking advantage and are extending the deadline. The new deadline is 12 a.m., Jan. 15.
All artists are eligible to submit an application. Applications will be reviewed and approved by a jury comprised of Kirkland community arts volunteers and professionals including members of the Kirkland Cultural Arts Commission, Kirkland Arts Center, and local fine art galleries.
The 48-inch long “salmonesque” sculptures made of fiberglass will be available after artist selection for pick-up and decoration. Once finished, the works of art may be displayed at community festivals and by select sponsors throughout the year. Five fish sculptures have already been finished and displayed at Kirkland Summerfest 2013.
The remaining completed sculptures are due by or before March 15, 2014.
Money raised by the auction of the sculptures will be shared with the artists, the Kirkland Events Foundation, and a local conservation nonprofit.
There will be compensation for the artists at the completion of the project.
This project sponsored in part by 4 Culture, The Heathman Hotel, the Kirkland Cultural Arts Commission, the City of Kirkland, the Kirkland Chamber of Commerce, and Steve’s Custom Cars.
