City expanding recycling options in parks

For those residents uncomfortable sinning against nature and tossing a used water bottle in the trash at a public park, Kirkland has the answer for people like you.

For those residents uncomfortable sinning against nature and tossing a used water bottle in the trash at a public park, Kirkland has the answer for people like you.

The city recently announced the addition of recycling bins at 22 neighborhood parks around Kirkland, including McAuliffe, Tot Lot, North Rose Hill Woodlands, Rose Hill Meadows and Watershed parks.

“Over the last few years, we’d heard from residents that they want to recycle more and have more recycling options in public spaces,” said Jenna McInnis, the city’s Recycling Programs Coordinator. “They want to recycle, not use trash bins.”

Many of the larger parks and public buildings have recycle bins, but outside of the downtown area they’re hard to find.

The 22 locations will be along already-established Waste Management routes, allowing the city to expand the recycling program without putting a strain on parks staff.
