City of Kirkland initiates meetings for new single-family building permits

The City of Kirkland Development Services is continually looking for ways to improve its permit review process for customers.

The City of Kirkland Development Services is continually looking for ways to improve its permit review process for customers. The department has found that one of the leading factors that cause increased permit review times for new single-family homes is incomplete building permit applications.

These increased review times impact both the customer and the city. In an effort to improve service and reduce the overall time it takes to review permit applications, the city is initiating a 90-day pilot program where a completeness meeting prior to building permit submittal for new single-family homes will be required.

There is no fee for these meetings and the 20 minute meeting will ensure submittal documents are complete and accurate, allowing the city to review permit applications more efficiently.

The pilot program will begin on July 5; all building permit applications for new single-family homes made after this date will need to schedule a completeness meeting.

A completeness meeting can be scheduled between 8-10 a.m. Tuesday or Friday and the meeting request needs to be made at least one business day in advance. To schedule a completeness meeting, contact Steve Lybeck at 425-587-3607 or e-mail slybeck@kirklandwa.gov at least one business day in advance.
