Join the city of Kirkland Park Board, staff and consultant from 6 to 8 p.m. on July 16 at Kirkland City Hall for an open house to share ideas on a possible future Aquatics/Recreation/Community center (ARC) in Kirkland.

Displays on proposed aquatic uses, recreation programs, community spaces and conceptual building plans will be available for your comment. The drop-in open house will be held in the Peter Kirk Room.  Since last fall, the city’s Parks and Community Services Department, with support from The Sports Management Group, have been studying the proposal to have an ARC center that meets the needs of the Kirkland community. Following the announcement last summer the by Lake Washington School District that the pool at Juanita High School would be closing, the Kirkland City Council authorized the study of a replacement facility. Following site analysis and public input early this year, two primary sites were identified for a possible aquatic and/or recreation facility: Juanita Beach Park and the North Kirkland Community Center.

As part of the study, the city conducted a random telephone survey of Kirkland residents in March 2014 which showed that a majority of respondents – about 82 percent – indicated support for a community center facility.

In recent months, more detailed analysis of these the Park and Community Center sites has been conducted and will be presented to the City Council in September.
