Washington Conservation Voters (WCV) and the Sierra Club, the state’s largest environmental advocacy organizations, both endorse Bellevue Mayor Claudia Balducci for King County Council. Both WCV the Sierra Club gave Balducci a sole endorsement over Republican Jane Hague, who is seeking a sixth term.

“Claudia’s consistent commitment to environmental protection is the type of leadership we need from our elected officials,” said Shannon Murphy, President of Washington Conservation Voters.  “Claudia understands the far-reaching importance of environmental conservation, and we believe she will be a strong, effective, and much-needed voice for our clean air, clean water, and quality of life on the King County Council.”

“I am thrilled to receive the endorsements of Washington Conservation Voters and the Sierra Club,” said Balducci. “King County faces significant environmental challenges from the effects of climate change and unprecedented regional growth. Responsibly addressing these challenges means placing core principles of environmental conservation and stewardship at the forefront of our county’s policies. Balducci has championed low-carbon solutions for King County, including expanded light rail to Bellevue and the rest of the Eastside. As mayor, Balducci led the expansion of the Eastside Rail Corridor (ERC) as a shared space for cyclists and pedestrians.

WCV and the Sierra Club join a broad list of support including for Balducci including The Seattle Times, US Senator Patty Murray, King County Executive Dow Constantine, former Governor Christine Gregoire, Bellevue Firefighters; King County Labor Council; King County Democrats; NARAL Pro-Choice WA; Congressmembers Suzan DelBene and Adam Smith; State Senator Cyrus Habib; State Representatives Ross Hunter, Joan McBride, Tana Senn, Judy Clibborn, and Marcie Maxwell (former).  In addition, Balducci has the support of local mayors and councilmembers across the Eastside from Bellevue, Kirkland, Mercer Island, Redmond, Medina, Woodinville, and Issaquah.
