The Lake Washington School District (LWSD) has a plan to build schools and to provide quality learning environments.
The community is invited to Kirk Elementary School in Kirkland from 6-7:30 p.m. on March 23 for an open house event to learn about the plan which is based on a set of recommendations from a community-based Long-Term Facilities Planning Task Force. An April 2016 bond measure funds the first set of recommended projects.
The meeting will be held .
Two of those projects are the rebuild and enlarge of Peter Kirk Elementary and Margaret Mead Elementary schools to accommodate 550 students each. Community members are invited to join LWSD staff for an update on these two projects. Input from parents, staff, and community members is vital at this point in the design process, according to district officials.
Kirk Elementary School is located at 1312 6th Street.
An open house format is planned for the meeting. Posters that illustrate various aspects of the project will be set out around the room. LWSD staff and architects will be available to answer questions and gather feedback.
The concept designs for the two projects incorporate community feedback and input provided by the School Construction Input Teams. The teams are comprised of parents, teachers, staff, community representatives, and the principal. The teams met four times with LWSD leadership and the architects over the past three months to provide feedback on the existing schools, develop an understating of the values and culture of the schools and their communities, and to develop design goals for the new school projects. The team has considered the many factors that make an excellent learning environment for students.
For those who are not able to attend, district officials will have illustrations and other information posted on the Building for Success website at: http://www.lwsd.org/For-Community/BuildingOnSuccess/Pages/default.aspx for Kirk by March 27.
