Community School students choose bike caravan over busses

Students at International Community School may not have a big yellow bus to get them to and from their homes, but they don’t mind at all when they have a fun option like a bike caravan.

Many of the families who live in the Rose Hill area bike from their homes to the school as a group. This started as a fair weather event, but has since taken place in the cold and even rain with a dedicated group of young riders and the parents who accompany them.

Glen Buhlmann, the parent who organizes the group, says, “I am noticing significant advances in confidence and endurance.”

The group has spread and now also sometimes includes families who live quite far away who bring their bikes to a communal starting point in Rose Hill for the ride in together.

It is a great way to get the kids some exercise and friendly bonding before school, while saving gas and time in the car.

Transportation that is environmentally friendly and builds friendships at the same time? Sounds like a perfect fit for this school.
