Kirkland Parks and Community Services are hosting a dog-centered event called “See Spot Splash,” to celebrate the end of summer at Peter Kirk Pool. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on September 10.
“See Spot Splash is the one day of the year when dogs are welcome to dive into Peter Kirk Pool,” said Councilmember Toby Nixon. “It’ll be pups only in the pool–no people. Please take advantage of this wonderful opportunity and create a play-filled experience for your canine companions.”
There will be five separate swim sessions: one at 10 a.m. for small dogs only, then one at 11 a.m., one at 12 p.m., 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. The 10 a.m. session is for small dogs only, but dogs of all sizes are welcome at the other four sessions.
For See Spot Splash, dogs have the opportunity to enjoy the main pool and the wading pool. Amounts of chlorine in the pool will be decreased leading up to the event, but some chlorine will still be present while the dogs swim.
A multi-use rinse station will be provided west of the pool entrance for rinsing off dogs before and after the event. Dog owners must have proof of rabies vaccination at check-in, and the cost is $10 per dog per session.
The City of Kirkland will also open up Lee Johnson Ballfield as a one-day off leash area. Community members who are interested in the See Spot Splash event are encouraged to register their dogs in advance as space is limited.
