The Kirkland Boys & Girls Club hosted its 20th Annual Don James Golf Classic, presented by Cobalt Mortgage, at the Golf Club at Newcastle on Sept. 6.
The event sold out both courses with 288 golfers and 35 sponsors and raised more than $230,000 for community youth programs at the Boys & Girls Clubs of King County—Kirkland Branch.
For the 10th year, the event was presented by Cobalt Mortgage, headquartered in Kirkland. Other corporate supporters were media sponsors ROOT Sports and KJR Sports Radio as well as lunch sponsor Ezell’s Famous Chicken.
The noon shotgun start was complete with fun and entertaining contests, raffles and hole-in-one giveaways, thanks to generous sponsors. After playing the rounds, the golfers came in for a cocktail hour and silent auction, followed by dinner and the live auction featuring one-of-a-kind items.
The event emcee was Troy McVicker of Event Source NW, who joined auctioneer extraordinaire Jim
Jungers in providing an entertaining and fun atmosphere for the evening. The keynote speaker was Boys &
Girls Clubs of King County Youth of the Year Delannah Collins-Wright. She brought attendees to their feet as she expressed the importance and impact the club has made on her life.
Cobalt Mortgage President Keith Tibbles took the stage to surprise the Kirkland Boys & Girls Club with a $10,000 check to start the night off with a bang.
“Cobalt Mortgage continues to surprise us in going above and beyond in their support for this tournament and our clubs,” said Doug Wozeniak, regional director East of Boys & Girls Clubs of King County. “This tournament started out 20 years ago as a small function, and Cobalt Mortgage has made it what it is today— reputed as one of the best run nonprofit golf tournaments in the Northwest. Proceeds from this event will allow for hundreds of kids to utilize our services, and that is what it’s all about.”
The Don James Classic was a success, thanks to many sponsors, donors, attendees and volunteers.
