Dr. David Woodall was unanimously chosen as Lake Washington Institute of Technology’s (LWIT) president by the college’s board of trustees on Tuesday.

Dr. Woodall has served as the state-run polytechnic institution’s interim president since January, when Dr. Sharon McGavick retired.

The LWIT board’s decision completes a year-long public process that involved participation from college students, employees and community members.

“During the past 11 months, the board has observed Dr. Woodall in action and evaluated his performance,” said Bruce J. Reid, chair of the LWIT Board of Trustees. “The board believes Dr. Woodall is highly qualified to serve this college and to execute the board’s vision for the school. With Dr. Woodall’s leadership, the board is excited about the future success of this college.”

“This institution has a wonderful history of supporting workforce development in Washington State,” Dr. Woodall said. “I look forward to leading this school in growing education and training partnerships that prepare our future workforce to meet the needs of the Puget Sound region’s evolving high tech industry.”

Dr. Woodall is the eighth president of the college.

Prior to coming to the LWIT, Dr. Woodall served in a number of senior leadership positions at the Oregon Institute of Technology, including interim president. Dr. Woodall has also served in teaching and leadership positions in the engineering and mathematics programs at the University of Alaska – Fairbanks, the University of Idaho, and the University of New Mexico.

Dr. Woodall has a Doctorate in Applied Physics from Cornell University, and a Master’s degree in Nuclear Engineering from Columbia University.

Dr. Woodall lives in Woodinville with his wife Carol.
