The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter police blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 1,000 per week.
Between Aug. 17-24, there were 230 traffic incidents, 29 traffic accidents, five DUIs, 44 general traffic incidents, six incidents involving illegal drugs, 47 alarm calls, 15 abandoned vehicles, three burglaries, seven incidents of fraud, 15 civil incidents, six cases of harassment, 17 thefts, 14 vehicle prowls, two vehicle thefts, 18 warrants served, 23 noise complaints, 13 animal calls, nine incidents of domestic violence, one fireworks complaint, 25 disturbances, three sex offenses, four hit and runs and 37 incidents involving at least one arrest.
Aug. 17
DUI: 1:06 a.m., 13200 block of 116th Way NE; A 25-year-old was found slumped over his steering wheel in the middle of an intersection. He performed poorly in field sobriety tests and did not provide a breath sample on scene. The man later provided breath samples of .167 and .164, was arrested for DUI-Physical Control, booked and released.
Theft: 7:52 p.m., 11900 block of 109th Ave. NE; A 35-year-old woman called to have her 68-year-old mother removed from her house. The mother had traveled to Kirkland from Tennessee to take care of her daughter, who had fractured her skull from a fall while drinking. The daughter was intoxicated at the time of the incident, and stole money from her mother’s wallet. She was arrested for third-degree theft.
Malicious mischief: 10:30 p.m., 13000 block of NE 102nd Pl.; A 21-year-old woman was arrested for third-degree malicious mischief, domestic violence, after she damaged the window in the house belonging to her ex-boyfriend.
Aug. 18
DUI: 1:32 a.m., 10600 block of NE 68th St.; A 43-year-old Renton woman was pulled over in her Honda Accord for several dangerous traffic violations, including driving into the oncoming lane. The woman smelled strongly of intoxicants, struggled to stand in one place and stated she had nothing to drink whatsoever. She refused a field sobriety and preliminary breath test, and when taken into custody, provided BAC levels of .259 and .260. The woman later admitted to consuming “two drinks,” and was processed and released from Kirkland jail.
Aug. 19
Domestic: 12:14 a.m., 13300 block of 103rd lane NE; A 25-year-old man was arrested for fourth-degree assault, domestic violence, after he dragged his 24-year-old girlfriend around their residence by her arms, causing her pain and visible injuries to her arms.
Warrant arrest: 11:36 a.m., 11200 block of NE 141st St.; A 20-year-old woman was contacted in front of a known drug dealers house and arrested on her misdemeanor warrant.
Assault: 6:18 p.m., 12000 block NE 128th St.; A 31-year-old patient at EvergreenHealth attempted to strangle a nurse with their own necklace. The woman will be charged with 3rd-degree assault.
Aug. 20
DUI: 12:43 a.m., 11400 block of NE 85th St.; A 51-year-old Sammamish man was arrested for DUI. He provided two breath samples of .110 and .107, and was booked and released from the Kirkland jail.
Domestic: 8:45 a.m., 300 block of Central Way; A 23-year-old Bellevue man was arrested for 4th-degree domestic violence assault after assaulting his 18-year-old girlfriend. Kirkland police had numerous 911 callers for the physical assault, and the couple was later found fleeing back to the Arete Apartments. The man was arrested and booked.
Aug. 21
Theft: 5:33 p.m., 14400 block of 124th Ave. NE; A 34-year-old Lynnwood man was detained after he matched the description of a male who had stolen alcohol from Safeway. The man provided a false name and admitted to having the alcohol. The man was arrested, then telling officers he had swallowed 1.5 grams of heroin. The man was medically discharged from EvergreenHealth and taken to Kirkland jail.
Domestic: 11:07 p.m., 1000 block of Lake St. S; A 44-year-old woman showed up to her boyfriend’s house intoxicated, damaging his outer screen door and breaking the outer pane glass window that leads to his kitchen. The woman was arrested for third-degree domestic violence malicious mischief.
Aug. 24
Malicious mischief: 9:41 p.m., 8300 block of NE 143rd St; A 23-year-old man was arrested for 3rd-degree malicious mischief, domestic violence, after he went on a drunken bender and smashed four doors inside his mother’s home. The mother stated her son was unable to handle his alcohol on his day off and destroyed her house, causing her to fear for her safety.
