Eastside Earth Day events

As Earth Day approaches, numerous Eastside cities aim to celebrate, educate and foster a positive environmental impact through events for all ages.

Issaquah

Keep Issaquah Beautiful Day

Date: April 20, 2024

Event time: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and pizza and music at 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.

Ticket or registration: Must register before.

Location: the Historic Shell Station, located at 232 Front Street N.

The Downtown Issaquah Association (DIA) has planned a city-wide clean-up and planting event for Earth Day. Groups and individuals will spend a few hours in various locations picking up trash, weeding, planting and providing sidewalk maintenance.

The event hours are flexible and accommodate for all ages and abilities. Additionally, students can also accrue community service hours through the event.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring work gloves.

After working, DIA will provide pizza and live music at the Historic Shell Station.

Earth Day at Cougar Mountain Zoo

Date: April 20, 2024

Event time: 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Ticket or registration: $16.00 per ticket.

Location: Cougar Mountain Zoo, located at 19525 SE 54th St.

Join Issaquah Cougar Mountain Zoo to celebrate Earth Day. The zoo will hold educational lectures and viewings of animals enjoying Earth Day treats. Along the way, kids can collect stamps and Earth Day passports.

Earth Day with the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery

Date: April 20, 2024

Event time: 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Ticket or registration: Free. Donations are welcome.

Location: Issaquah Salmon Hatchery, located at 125 W Sunset Way.

Join Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery (FISH) to celebrate Earth Day with the Chinook salmon before their release in May. Guests can tour the native plant garden; feed rainbow trout; view 4.5 million chinook smolts in the hatchery rearing ponds; participate in salmon-themed arts and crafts; and write good-luck letters to the Chinook salmon soon to begin their journey.

Informational and hands-on exhibits will explore ways guests can help the salmon and environment all year.

The Watershed Science Center will showcase local artists, and the gift shop will sell pieces by local artists and special spring items for the Earth Day event.

Earth Day restoration events on April 20

Kimball Slough

Event time: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Ticket or registration: Must register before.

Location: Kimball Slough, located at Meadowbrook Way Southeast.

Join the Snoqualmie Tribe and Mount Si High School Green Team for an Earth Day celebration with ecological restoration activities such as planting, weeding and mulching. Local environmental organizations will be invited to talk about their work in the Snoqualmie Valley and lead wildlife tours.

East Sunset Trailhead

Event time: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Ticket or registration: Must register before.

Location: East Sunset Trailhead, located at 661-831 E Sunset Way.

Join Green Issaquah in removing invasive weeds from the surrounding forested habitat.

Green Issaquah will provide instructions, gloves and tools. Close-toed shoes are required, and long-sleeved-layered clothing, water and snacks are recommended.

Park Pointe

Event time: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Ticket or registration: Must register before.

Location: Park Pointe Southeast Evans Street.

Join the Issaquah Alps Trails Club and Green Issaquah to remove invasive species, primarily blackberry bushes, to protect the forest and clear space to plant trees to meet the city’s goal of 55% tree canopy cover by 2035.

Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves; wear close-toed shoes and layered clothing; and bring water and snacks.

Sammamish

City of Sammamish Earth Day

Date: April 20, 2024

Event time: 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Ticket or registration: Free.

Location: Lodge at Beaver Lake Park, located at 25101 SE 24th St.

The city of Sammamish is hosting an Earth Day celebration with activities from crafts, environmental informational booths, a petting zoo, a bug and reptile interactive booth, food trucks and giveaways.

Redmond

Earth Day goat hike

Date: April 20, 2024

Event time: 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Ticket or registration: $24 per person. Must register before.

Location: Farrel-McWhirter Park, located at 19545 NE Redmond Road.

Redmond Parks and Recreation invites individuals aged 5 and above to engage with and learn about goats, subsequently joining the curious creatures on the Farrel-McWhirter Park trails.

During the hike, participants learn about wildlife species and plants in the forest.

Participants are advised to dress according to the weather and are required to wear close-toed shoes.

Earth Day at the farm

Date: April 21, 2024

Event time: 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Ticket or registration: $36 per parent/child pair. Must register before.

Location: Farrel-McWhirter Park, located at 19545 NE Redmond Road.

The city of Redmond is hosting an Earth Day event for children 4 to 7 years old. Children accompanied by parents will explore nature in a forest hike at Farrel-McWhirter Park. Children will get their hands dirty making crafts and spending time with barnyard animals.

Earth Day storytime and crafts

Date: April 21, 2024

Event time: 9:15 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Ticket or registration: $36 per parent/child pair. Must register before.

Location: Farrel-McWhirter Park, located at 19545 NE Redmond Road.

The city of Redmond welcomes children 4 to 7 years old to the Big Red Barn at the Farrel-McWhirter Park to participate in storytime, meet barn animals and make Earth Day art and crafts to take home.

Participants are encouraged to wear close-toed shoes and dress according to the weather.

Kirkland

Kirkland Urban Earth Day celebration

Date: April 22, 2024

Event time: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Ticket or registration: Free.

Location: Kirkland Urban, 425 Urban Plaza.

Visit Kirkland Urban to celebrate Earth Day with balloon artists, face painting, crafts, educational material and environmental guest speakers.

The event will also include a recycling center where guests can bring old electronics to recycle and receive a tree to take home and plant.

Bellevue

EarthFest

Date: April 20, 2024

Event time: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Ticket or registration: Free.

Location: Bellevue Botanical Garden, located at 12001 Main St.

The city of Bellevue and Bellevue Botanical Garden is hosting its first EarthFest celebration in honor of Earth Day. The event will include environmental resource booths, educational nature-based programs and arts and crafts activities.

Bothell

Earth Day at Blyth Park

Date: April 27, 2024

Event time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Ticket or registration: Must register before.

Location: Blyth Park, 16950 W Riverside Drive.

Join the city of Bothell and Whale Scout to celebrate Earth Day at Blyth Park, formally known as Wayne Golf Course. Volunteers will remove invasive plants to promote healthier forests along river banks and protect young salmon. The event will also include a variety of activities for all ages.

The city of Bothell reminds volunteers under 16 must be accompanied by an adult, and those under 18 need a parent-signed release form.

Earth Day stewardship work party

Date: April 20, 2024

Event time: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Ticket or registration: Must register before.

Location: North Creek Forest (upper work site), located at 10654 NE 204th Place.

Participate in Earth Day stewardship with the Friends of North Creek Forest by assisting in the removal of invasive plants, mulching, planting and watering. Tools and gloves will be provided.

Volunteers are required to wear close-toed shoes, such as boots, and should dress according to the weather. Volunteers 15 and under must come with adults.

Kenmore

Earth Day celebration

Date: April 27, 2024

Event time: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Ticket or registration: Free.

Location: Rhododendron Park, located at 6910 NE 170th St.

The city of Kenmore and Kenmore Heritage Society is hosting an Earth Day event with guided nature walks from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., vendor booths, a scavenger hunt and short courses on pickleball.

A volunteer work party will run throughout the event, offering an opportunity to engage in environmental stewardship for an hour or longer.

The event will provide instructions and tools. While volunteers are encouraged to bring their preferred gloves, gloves will also be available at the event.

The city of Kenmore encouraged guests to walk, bike, carpool, or ride the free shuttle located at the Kenmore Park and Ride.
