Kirkland’s favorite summer spots are starting to get busy with volleyball players, swimmers, dog walkers and those just looking to enjoy the beauty of the city’s beach front parks. Waverly Beach Park, 633 Waverly Way, and Houghton Beach Park, 5811 Lake Washington Blvd., swim areas are popular places, especially in warm weather. Lifeguards will be on duty through Sept. 6. Houghton Beach Park will have lifeguards on duty Monday-Sunday, 1-6 p.m. Waverly Beach Park will be guarded Monday-Friday, 1-5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 2-5 p.m. The southern portion of Juanita Beach Park, 9703 N.E. Juanita Drive, including the swim area, is closed due to the construction of pedestrian, environmental and facility improvements. Swim lessons and open swims, including Friday Family Fun Nights (through Aug. 13), are in full swing at the Peter Kirk Pool, 202 Third Street. For information, call 425-587-3300.
