Lake Washington High senior Paul Falco wrapped up a complete-game shutout in top form for the Kangaroos on Wednesday, leading his team to a 7-0 3A KingCo League win over Interlake in Bellevue.
Falco struck out 10 of the final 11 outs, and improved to a team-best 5-0 on the mound.
The Kangs (12-1 overall, 11-1) didn’t score until the top of the fourth, when Matt Scheffler doubled to left field and drove in two runs.
That’s when Falco went to work. His first strikeout of the game came in the bottom of the frame, closing the fourth inning. Then came three consecutive strikeouts — nine called strikes in 10 pitches — in the fifth inning.
Falco struck out two batters in the bottom of the sixth with a walk and a fly out to center field. Interlake picked up two hits in the bottom of the seventh, but Falco got all three outs at the plate to put a bow on the Kangs’ fifth-consecutive win.
Jake Wikel knocked a two-run homer into left field in the top of the seventh, tying Falco for the team lead in dingers with two.
Jared Menssen batted in a run in the fifth inning, shortly before Jake Steele scored on steal of home plate.
Next, the Kangs are scheduled to play Nathan Hale at 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 16 at Safeco Field in Seattle.
