Two markets opened last week in Kirkland with high hopes for improved sales as well as weather.

The Juanita Friday Market opened June 6 with an assortment of new vendors but a shorter season due to poor weather last year. The market is open from 3-7 p.m. and runs until Sept. 26. Among the products sold are fruits, flowers and fresh produce grown from the local area.

Tina Lathia from the Kirkland Parks and Community Services Department said they shortened the season because, for some reason, Fridays did not receive weather as good as prior days in the week last year during the summer, though she said as far as sales went the vendors did well when the sun was out. Lathia said the Friday Market will hold a kid’s day every first Friday of the month on June 6, Aug. 1 and Sept. 5.

The Wednesday Market at Marina Beach opened on June 4 and runs until Sept. 24. This is the second year the market has been held at Marina Park after it spent two years on Park Lane. Market manager Jeni Halton is optimistic about this year. Normally, she said the market saw sales drop every time it was forced to move, but last year when they returned to Marina Park they saw sales remain steady from the prior year.
