Flooded roadways closed in Totem Lake area of Kirkland

The City of Kirkland's Public Works Department is vigorously responding to the roadway and waterway flooding occurring in Kirkland. The following roads are closed and drivers are asked to obey all road closures

The City of Kirkland Public Works Department is monitoring the flooding impacts to residential properties along Billy Creek, a tributary of Juanita Creek in the Finn Hill/North Juanita area. Both creeks are experiencing high water and flooding. Impacted roads include 94th Avenue NE at NE 124th Street up to NE 126th Place. Crews are checking storm drain systems to ensure proper drainage is occurring. Drivers are asked to find alternate routes. Area residents should stay clear of the flood waters and report local flooding hazards by calling the Public Works Maintenance line at 425-587-3900.

· Northbound I-405 at the Totem Lake Blvd. exit to 120th Avenue (tunnel)

· Totem Lake Blvd. from 120th Avenue N.E. to N.E. 124th Street

· Totem Lake Blvd. from N.E. 128th St. to N.E. 124th Street.

To report severe flooding or road hazards in Kirkland city limits, call the Public Works Maintenance line at 425-587-3900. Please provide as much detail as possible about the location and impacts of flooding.

Safety Tips

Heavy rainfall can cause trees to fall and possible power outages. Public works crews are ready to remove fallen trees from the road. If wires are on the ground, the proper agencies will be contacted.

· If you come upon flood waters or a flowing stream where water is above your ankles, STOP, turn around, and go another way. Never try to walk, swim, or drive through swift water. (American Red Cross)

· Never play around high water, creek and stream banks, storm drains, ditches, ravines, or culverts in flooded or recently flooded areas. (American Red Cross)

· Watch for “Street Closed” signs. They are placed by crews for your safety.

· Call 9-1-1 only for emergencies.

· Listen to your radio or television for storm forecasts and other information.

· Stay away from downed power lines. To report a downed power line or a power outage, contact Puget Sound Energy at 1-888-225-5773.

· Check on your disaster preparedness kit to ensure it contains enough food, water, flashlights, and other supplies to last at least three days. Remember to rotate and update your supplies every six months.
