Lake Washington Technical College (LWTC) and the Lake Washington Dental Hygienists’ Society are offering free dental care for low-income children from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5 on LWTC’s Kirkland campus. The program helps celebrate February as National Children’s Dental Health Month.

Children ages 6-13 are eligible for the services. Volunteer dentists will provide oral exams, bitewing x-rays and fluoride varnish. Dental sealants will be applied by registered State of Washington Dental Hygienists and LWTC DentalHygiene students. Sealants are non-toxic white coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of the back teeth which prevent cavities. The process is painless, can protect the teeth for six to eight years, and is usually done in less than one hour. Children whose teeth are unable to be sealed due to decay may have their cavities filled at a later date.

The total value of the services provided is more than $300 per child. Reservations can be made by calling the Lake Washington Technical College Dental Clinic at 425-739-8130. Enrollment is limited.

The dental clinic is located at 11605 132nd Ave.N.E., Kirkland. Campus signs displaying “LWDHS” will guide registrants to the clinic.
