Goodwill has announced that it will be opening a new 28,000 square foot retail store at the old Albertsons location in the Juanita neighborhood of Kirkland.
According to the Goodwill press release, the store is the 25th in the central and north Puget Sound region and will open May 21 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. After the doors open, there will be giveaway items for first 200 customers.
The merchandise assortment will appeal to both the budget and fashion conscious, with men’s and women’s apparel, women’s accessories, and home and office décor items, the release states. The store will employ approximately 75 individuals.
The new location will begin accepting donations from the community on Feb. 20 and will continue to accept donations once the store opens.
Customers who make purchases at Goodwill stores are supporting Goodwill’s free job training and education programs that help better the lives of people in the community, the release states.
As part of the city’s plan for a new fire station for the Kirkland Fire Department, they are considering buying a portion of the parking lot. The proposed location for the fire station still being considered is 9820 Northeast 132nd Street, in front of where the Rite Aid is currently located.
City Manager Kurt Triplett said Goodwill’s announcement won’t impact their plans, as they can still purchase a section of the parking lot. He also said if they purchased the lot in front of the Rite Aid the store would not be required to move. The other proposed site, Triplett said, is the nearby church at 10007 Northeast 132nd Street.
