Guild Mortgage of Kirkland has made it to the final round in Hopelink’s March Can Drive competition, knocking off TONI&GUY Hairdressing Academy of Shoreline.

The Kirkland mortgage company brought in 1,289 pounds of food for a total so far of 3,555 pounds, and faces defending champ Hancock’s Bakery of Redmond in the final round this week.

In the fourth week of the contest, Hancock’s Bakery eliminated Greater Redmond Chamber of Commerce – collecting 2,434 pounds for a total of 5,593 pounds during the competition.

To ensure that businesses of all sizes are able to compete on a level playing field, the competition uses a unique scoring system: the total pounds of food donated by a business are divided by the total number of employees, resulting in a competitive “score.”

The eight businesses competing in week four collected a total of 5,530 pounds of food and $443 in cash, bringing the total for the campaign so far to 18,670 pounds and $2,454 – closing in on twice last year’s total of 9,809 pounds.
