A late night hit-and-run accident sent two people to the hospital and one to King County Jail early Friday morning on I-405 through Kirkland.
A 56-year-old Lynnwood man, driving a Toyota Carolla, allegedly drifted into hazard barrels on north-bound 405 at approximately 12:30 a.m. near the Northeast 70th Place construction zone in Kirkland. Washington State Patrol reports that the man then allegedly overcorrected his steering and hit a Jeep Liberty in the next lane over, causing it to roll onto its top in the right shoulder.
The suspect then fled the scene and continued northbound on 405 until it struck a Jersey barrier at Northeast 124th Street, where he was arrested by troopers. Investigators believe drugs or alcohol contributed to the accident.
The driver of the Jeep, a 44-year-old Austin, Texas man, was transported to Overlake Hospital with undisclosed injuries. A passenger in the victim’s vehicle, a 44-year-old Tacoma woman, was transported to EvergreenHealth for undisclosed injuries.
Both vehicles were deemed totaled at the scene.
