Three students from the International Community School’s Music Ensemble and Choir were recently selected to participate in the annual Washington Music Educators Association (WMEA) Junior All-State band, choir and orchestra. Outstanding students from all over Washington State will convene in Yakima on Feb. 13, 2010 to rehearse under the direction of outstanding music educators, and present a final concert that afternoon. These musicians were selected through auditions to participate in this outstanding event, which is sponsored by the WMEA.
The following ICS eighth graders were selected for the WMEA 2010 Junior All-State groups: Francis Nguyen, baker band and alto saxophone; Alexandra Bartos-O’Neill, mixed choir and soprano; and Emily Young, treble choir and soprano.
In addition, five students from the ICS Music Ensemble and Choir were selected to participate in the WMEA 2010 All-State honor groups. Outstanding musicians across Washington state were selected through competitive auditions (more than 2,400 students applied this year) to participate in this event. Students will convene in Yakima on February 12-15, 2010 under the direction of renowned conductors to present their final concerts.
The ICS students selected for this honor are: Bryan Djunaedi, violin, chamber orchestra; Hannah Hirano, violin, symphony orchestra; Bill Zorn, clarinet, wind ensemble; Nalini Krishnan, soprano, symphonic choir; and Zoe Silver, soprano, treble choir.
