Attorney and Inglewood resident Tom Mortimer was recently sworn into office as a newly-appointed Northshore Utility District (NUD) commissioner. Mortimer replaces long-time Commissioner Robert Peterson, who recently retired from his seat after a planned move to Bainbridge Island. Commissioner Mortimer will fill the remainder of Mr. Peterson’s term through December 2019, after which time he will stand for election.

Commissioner Mortimer brings to NUD a wide breadth of knowledge and experience. A highly-respected attorney based in Seattle, Mortimer has 29 years’ history working for public utilities and private sector entities. He brings specific expertise in state water law, water quality regulation, clean energy resource management, and environmental protection.

Prior to Mortimer’s swearing-in ceremony, District Board Secretary Don Ellis honored former Commissioner Peterson for his distinguished career of public service. In addition to nearly 10 years representing NUD, Peterson also served as fire chief for Northshore Fire Department, with a 34-year career in the fire service.

District General Manager, Al Nelson, spoke highly of Peterson and his many years of accomplishments.

“As we recognize the value of Robert Peterson’s investment in the Northshore community, the District is pleased to welcome another like-minded public servant in Tom Mortimer.
