A Houghton cul-de-sac will this weekend be one of 1,500 neighborhoods across the country treated to its very own ice cream block party.
This Sunday, July 20, at 7:30 p.m., Dreyers ice cream will give neighbors in the area of 110th Avenue N.E. in Houghton 12 cartons of its slow churned ice cream, four boxes of ice cream bars, bowls, spoons, napkins, a Dreyer’s apron and more as part of the Dreyer’s “Slow Churned Neighborhood Salute” promotion.
The prize was made possible thanks to local woman Heather Dunning, who captured her neighborhood’s charm and community spirit in a winning essay sent to Dreyers.
Dunning, a Lake Washington High School graduate, entered the contest in March and received news of the prize a few weeks ago. She graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in the spring with a degree in communications, publishing and printing arts and is interning this summer at the Kirkland Arts Center before leaving for a year in Chicago with the Lutheran Volunteer Corps.
