Students from the International Community School (ICS) in Kirkland excelled at the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) State Competition which was held on April 12-14 at the Seattle Westin.

Students had the opportunity to compete in 55 different business-related events, attend educational workshops and network with other students from around the state as well as professionals in their various fields.

ICS students received a total of 23 awards. Apart from this, ICS won an award for the high school with the highest percentage of the student body involved with FBLA and a Gold Seal Chapter Award given to recognize the outstanding work done by ICS FBLA’s members in fundraising, community service, and general facilitation of the club.

Twenty-seven individuals from ICS FBLA won awards at the state competition, and 16 members qualified to participate in the National FBLA Competition to be held in San Antonio, Texas from June 24-27. The ICS students attending the conference will compete against FBLA members from across the country.

This is what Mrs. Smith, advisor for ICS FBLA, had to say about the ICS FBLA chapter:

“In six years, our chapter has grown from nine members to over 70, making it apparent that FBLA fills a hole where it is desperately needed. Since ICS offers very few business-related courses, our students must study and prepare on their own. Our winning record is a testament to their commitment.”

The mission of the Washington State FBLA is to prepare students for successful careers in business through support for curriculum development and innovative assessment tools.
